Ahmed Shehzad slams Mohammad Rizwan, accuses Pakistan players of playing religion card

Pakistan is facing criticism for their performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Under Babar Azam’s captaincy, the Men in Green failed to cross the group stage, as they lost to the United States of America and India. The shocking first round exit was questioned by former cricketers.

Mohammad Rizwan accepted the frustration and anger of the fans and said that it was justified. Former Pakistan player Ahmed Shehzad took to social media to hit out at the wicker-keeper batter.

He accused Rizwan of playing religion card to hide his failures in the global tournament.

Rizwan had said that Islam matters a lot to them. He further added that if a person is a Muslim, he represents it wherever he goes.

“Human being is a brand ambassador of two things. If a person is a Muslim, he represents Islam wherever he goes. He is also the brand ambassador of Pakistan. It doesn’t matter what anyone says,” he said.

Shehzad didn’t like the statement and blasted Rizwan.

“Some of the players are holding press conferences and playing religion card to hide their poor performance. They lie about their fitness and then religion takes a back seat. Religion doesn’t teaches you to fake injuries. You are paid to perform. Religion teaches you to fullfill your responsibilities and not to lie. Some of the players don’t deserve another chance and if they want second shot, they can make their own teams,” Ahmed Shehzad wrote on X.

“PCB chairman shouldn’t forget the statement he made after the T20 World Cup debacle. He should conduct big surgery. Some of the players are making fun of chairman’s message as they don’t care. However, we will not allow players to walk away easily. They should be punished,” he added.
