Ambati Rayudu, a former batter for the Indian cricket team, outlined the differences between Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians supporters. Both teams are among the most favoured teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and have won a record five IPL championships.
When Rayudu was asked about the fandom of both franchises in a recent interview, he stated that he thought there was a fundamental difference between them.
The former cricket player for CSK and MI held the opinion that MS Dhoni’s supporters came before those of the team. However, Rayudu stated that Mumbai Indians supporters prioritised the team over the players who were representing their teams.
“As a player I would say, they support Mumbai Indians more than one player or X player or Y player. They are always for Mumbai Indians. Chennai Super Kings is slightly different. Chennai are: Dhoni’s fans first and then CSK. If Mahi bhai is not there, don’t think the stadium would be half full. They are all Mahi bhai fans,” Rayudu said on The Ranveer Show 360.
Rayudu played in the IPL for both teams before quitting in 2023. He continued by saying that CSK might have trouble packing the stadium after Dhoni retires given the fan base he has in Chennai.
