Europe’s most liveable city for British expats in 2024 – full ranking | Travel News | Travel

According to research from The Economist Intelligence Unit, Edinburgh became less liveable over the last year. If you’re feeling as though it’s time for a change from the UK, it might be time to consider life as a British expat.

But which global cities are the world’s most liveable for expats?

The Economist Intelligence Unit crowned Vienna, the capital city of Austria, as the world’s most liveable city. The pretty city retained the top spot from 2022.

But what makes Vienna quite so liveable?

An Economist spokesperson said: “Vienna, with its excellent mix of stability, culture and entertainment, and reliable infrastructure tops the ranking for the fourth time in five years.”

Vienna is one of the world’s safest capital cities and there’s a relatively low risk of violent crime. The city’s public transport system is cheap and frequent, making it a popular way of getting around.

The housing system is also fairly unique and more than 60 percent of the city’s residents live in subsidised housing. This helps to keep rents low and gives a range of residents access to city centre living.

When it comes to culture, Vienna has more than 100 museums and it’s also famed for opera and classical music.
