“Riyan Parag next Suryakumar Yadav reminds”: RR bowling coach Shane Bond hails young batter

Riyan Parag has been a part of the IPL for six years now, playing at least seven matches per season since his debut in 2019. In three consecutive seasons from 2020 to 2022, he played over 10 matches each year.

Despite ample opportunities, his average hovered around 18 and his strike rate was in the low 120s during his first five seasons. His brash, confrontational on-field demeanor drew criticism, especially paired with his underwhelming batting performances.

Parag’s regular failure with the bat led to his trolling on social media. However, he often maintained a cheerful attitude even after getting dismissed. After five long years of trolling and non-performance, Parag is eager to prove himself.

The Rajasthan Royals team management and owners deserve immense credit for their unwavering support to Parag over the years. Ignoring the outside pressure, they persisted in backing him, even when his performance faltered.

While other franchises may quickly discard international stars after a few poor games, the Royals took a long-term view and invested in Parag’s development.

Riyan Parag has been the best batter for RR in two of their three IPL games so far. The social media trolls have shamelessly done a complete reversal. The unwarranted abuse has turned into praise.

In the post match press conference RR bowling coach Shane Bond compared Parag with the number one ranked T20 batter Suryakumar Yadav.

“Parag reminds me of Suryakumar Yadav when he first joined Mumbai a few years back. Both possess prodigious talent,” Shane Bond said.

“Parag was in great touch in the domestic season while batting up the order. The trade of Padikkal for Avesh Khan enabled us to move Riyan into a more suitable position.” revealed Bond.

Parag first smashed an unbeaten 84 off 45 balls against the Delhi Capitals. He then played responsibly, guiding his team to victory with a crucial 54* in the 126-run chase against Mumbai.
