  • Skoda will sell the Elroq with 55 kWh, 63 kWh, and 82 kWh batteries.
  • Most versions are rear-wheel drive but the flagship version has all-wheel drive.
  • The EV supports DC charging at speeds of up to 175 kW.

This is our best look yet at the latest addition to Skoda’s range of EVs. The new model, called the Elroq, is a compact SUV and the first Skoda to adopt the brand’s new Modern Solid design language. It shares much of its technology with the Enyaq, and sales are scheduled to start at the end of this year.

Newly-released photos of the model showcase it with skin-tight green and black camouflage, and it certainly looks familiar as a Skoda model. The front end includes a small lower grille, while a Skoda badge is found on the front apron. The camouflage does a good job of hiding some of the finer details, but we can see the fascia is certainly quite angular and includes a pair of sharp headlights.

When viewed from the side, key elements that stand out include the short front and rear overhangs, the pronounced shoulder line, and the shapely lines running along the base of the doors. The flamingo graphic on the rear windows is a bit of fun, and Skoda says the Elroq has been equipped with wheels that have been “aerodynamically optimized.” They will be offered in sizes ranging from 19 inches to 20 inches and contribute to an overall drag coefficient of 0.26.

The VW Group’s familiar MEB platform underpins the model, and Skoda will sell it in Elroq 50, 60, 85, and 85x guises. The base model rocks a 55 kWh battery with a 168 hp (125 kW) electric motor on the rear axle, while the Elroq 60 has been fitted with a larger 63 kWh pack and a 201 hp (150 kW) motor, also at the rear wheels. Both versions will do 99 mph (160 km/h).

Found beneath the skin of the 85 and 85x models is an 82 kWh pack. The standard Elroq 85 pairs this pack with a 282 hp (210 kW) rear motor, while the 85x adds a small motor on the front axle, resulting in a combined 295 hp (220 kW). Skoda promises a range of over 348 miles (560 km) for both of these versions.

All Elroqs support DC fast charging, although only the 85 and 85x models offer 175 kW charging. Skoda says all models can charge from 10-80% in less than 28 minutes through a DC charger. All models charge at up to 11 kW through an AC charger.

Skoda has equipped the new EV with a Travel Assist driving assistance system, Remote Parking, and up to nine airbags. While dozens of photos have been released of the SUV’s exterior, no interior shots have been published. The Czech automaker says the cabin will include plenty of storage compartments and 470 liters (16.6 cubic-feet) of trunk space or 1,580 liters (55.8 cubic-feet) with the rear seats folded flat. The Elroq will also work with the MySkoda app.
