Former cricketer Andrew Flintoff is the favourite to become the new white-ball head coach of England. After the team’s failure in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the T20 World Cup 2024, Matthew Mott’s job is under threat.
Jos Buttler’s captaincy is in danger as well. Rob Key, the Managing Director of ECB is likely to discuss about their future.
Former England captain Eoin Morgan is not interested in coaching the men’s team and now Flintoff’s name is doing rounds. He was out of action due to a horrific accident and recently returned to cricket as the head coach of Northern Superchargers.
Legendary pacer Stuart Broad has backed the move. The 38-year-old believe that the former all-rounder has a good cricketing brain.
“He is one of the heroes of the current generation, having won big matches for England. He has got a brilliant cricket brain and he loves cricket,” Broad was quoted as saying by The Mirror.
Meanwhile, it’s unclear if Buttler will be sacked from white-ball captaincy or given another chance for the 2025 Champions Trophy.
