Shreyas Iyer is one of the best white-ball players at the moment. He recently opened up on the difference between the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS). The decision-makers at PBKS were eager to talk to him, and his conversation with them was meaningful.
Iyer joined KKR in 2022 and helped the franchise to their third title in 2024. However, the 30-year-old parted ways with the three-time champions and joined Punjab Kings for INR 26.75 crore, making him the second costliest player in the history of the tournament. He hinted that there was a lack of clear communication, which led to his departure.
“I was a part of the conversation, but wasn’t in the mix completely. I worked hard to reach the position I am in now,” Iyer told GQ.
“I had helped India win the Champions Trophy, and the management at Punjab Kings wanted to talk to me. This allowed me to contribute on and off the field,” he added.
In IPL 2025, he scored over 600 runs and took the Punjab Kings to their first final since 2014. “I can offer a lot as a player and captain. If I get respect, anything can be achieved. This is what happened during my first year with Punjab. They gave me support,” he concluded.
