Sir Ian Botham falls into crocodile-infested waters in Australia, rescued by Merv Hughes

Merv Hughes rescued former all-rounder Sir Ian Botham after he fell into the crocodile-infested waters in Australia during a fishing trip. The legendary England cricketer was in the Moyle Rover in North Australia and suffered bruises during the incident.

While boarding the board, his foot got stuck in the ropes, leading to his fall. Merv Hughes was close by, and his sharp reaction saved Bothan before any mishap hit him. Despite being picked up immediately, Botham revealed that he saw the reptiles in the water. He has assured his family and fans that he is okay.

He shared pictures on social media to reveal about the incident.

“I was taken out of the water at the earliest. Quite a few eyes were looking at me inside the water. I didn’t get time to think about what was there. The guys were brilliant in pulling me out. I am okay now,” Botham said, as quoted by The Mirror.

The Moyle River is renowned for its large population of crocodiles, and there are five such reptiles per square kilometer.

Botham and Hughes were strong characters who often disagreed during England—Australia matches in international cricket. After retiring from the sport, they became good friends. The pair will commentate on the Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia starting November 22 in Perth.
