The Board of Control for Cricket in India (India) revealed that Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, with Harshit Rana set to take his place in the squad. Yashasvi Jaiswal has been dropped, with Varun Chakravarthy making the cut. Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube are the non-travelling reserves for the global tournament.
Bumrah was injured during the fifth and final Test against Australia. He hasn’t started practice yet and the apex body of the Indian cricket continues to keep mum on his recovery. Meanwhile, Rana has impressed everyone with his wicket-taking abilities in white-ball formats. He took three wickets in his first T20I against England and repeated the performance against the same team when he played his debut contest in the fifty-over format.
The Men in Blue will miss Bumrah as he has been sensational for the team. Mohammed Shami is the most senior fast bowler in the squad and his partnership with Arshdeep Singh and Harshit will play a key role in the team’s progress. Surprisingly, India will travel with five spinners.
India’s squad for ICC Champions Trophy, 2025: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill (Vice-captain), Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (WK), Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Harshit Rana, Mohd. Shami, Arshdeep Singh, Ravindra Jadeja, Varun Chakaravarthy.
Non Travelling substitutes: Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mohammed Siraj and Shivam Dube. The three players will travel to Dubai as and when required.
