HYDERABAD, India (AP) and Staff Writer – Shardul Thakur dismantled the batting powerhouse of Sunrisers Hyderabad with 4-34, and Nicholas Pooran hit the season’s fastest half-century to lead Lucknow Super Giants to a five-wicket win in the Indian Premier League on Thursday.
Thakur’s early strikes included the wickets of big hitters Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan on successive deliveries and helped pin down Hyderabad to 190-9 after Lucknow captain Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to chase.
Pooran’s blistering 70 off 26 balls then motored Lucknow to 193-5 in 16.1 overs, with Mitchell Marsh, coming in as an impact player at the top-order, scoring 52 off 31 balls.
Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant reacted to his franchise’s performance after the success against SRH at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad.
Rishabh Pant failed to open his account in the opening match against Delhi Capitals while he scored 15 against the Pat Cummins-led team.
“Big relief after a win, but the process is important. Can’t get too high after one win and can’t get too low after a defeat. We have been battling with injuries to our bowlers, and that is a big concern for us, but we can’t control it.
“It was good to see Avesh returning to the team. Shardul Thakur is bowling well and Prine Yadav is coming up as an impressive bowler. Nicholas Pooran has been magnificent for us,” he said.
