Vikram Solanki, Gujarat Titans‘ Director of Cricket, has praised Shubman Gill‘s performance under pressure in the IPL 2025. Shubman has guided GT to 7 wins in 10 matches this year since taking over as captain last season, moving the team closer to a playoff berth.
At the age of 24, he has been a proactive commander on the field, even disagreeing with umpires on occasion. During his inaugural season as captain, he encountered difficulty in leading his team to the quarterfinals. However, this year, he has flourished in the leadership position as a result of a well-balanced squad and enhanced planning processes.
At times, Solanki recognized that a batter who is highly experienced may find the additional responsibilities of leadership too much to handle. In spite of this, he is of the opinion that Gill has effectively managed the challenge.
“He’s an exceptional batter with a bright future ahead in his batting career, but what’s really rewarding to see is his growth in leadership. He’s truly developed into his role as captain, which is wonderful to witness,” Solanki said during the pre-game press conference.
“When you have someone as gifted, talented, and extraordinary as Shubman with the bat, there are always concerns about whether the added pressure of leadership would bear heavy. I don’t think that’s been the case. I think you sometimes see that people thrive in those sorts of responsibility roles, and Shubman certainly has done that.” he added
Shubman has a strong opening partnership with Sai Sudharsan, who has scored 504 runs in 10 matches at an average of 50.40 and a strike rate of 154.12. He is second in the Orange Cap race, just behind Virat Kohli’s 505 runs. Solanki further emphasized the strong chemistry between the two, noting their shared approach to the game.
“They deserve all the credit for their hard work, success, and the strength of their partnership,” mentioned.
“There is the nuance that they are similar in terms of how they approach the game. They have a similar mindset when it comes to the game. Both have a traditional style of play, and solid technique, with a deep understanding of facing the new ball, especially when there’s movement.”
