Pat Cummins gives no-nonsense statement on drinker Glenn Maxwell

Australia’s cricket captain, Pat Cummins, has weighed in on teammate Glenn Maxwell‘s recent Adelaide pub incident, emphasizing the need for accountability.

The all-rounder’s late-night visit to a hospital for an ‘alcohol-related’ incident has prompted Cricket Australia (CA) to launch an investigation.

Maxwell withdrew from the ODI squad for the upcoming three-match series against the West Indies, citing workload management, before news of his actions surfaced. While CA insists the timing is coincidental, the investigation will determine whether Maxwell faces any sanctions.

During a press conference ahead of the second Test against the West Indies, Cummins addressed the incident surrounding Maxwell.

Cummins stressed the importance of individuals taking responsibility for their decisions, especially in this case where Maxwell was not on tour with the Australian cricket team but attending a private event.

“We’re grown-ups and have all experienced nights out, you must decide for yourself. In this case, he wasn’t on tour with the Australians, he was at a private event, not with the cricket team. So, it’s a bit different. Whatever choices you make, take responsibility and be comfortable with them,” Cummins said ahead of the second Test.

The second Test between Australia and the West Indies will kick off on January 25 in Brisbane. The subsequent three-match T20I series, in which Maxwell is expected to participate, will commence from February 9 onwards.
