Not Rajat Patidar! Former pacer names a discarded player who should have replaced Virat Kohli in Test series vs England

Rajat Patidar has been disappointing in the ongoing Test series against England. He wad added to the Indian team as Virat Kohli’s replacement for the second Test. Kohli opted out of the five-match series for the birth of his second child. Patidar was including in the Playing XI in the second Test in Vizag.

He hasn’t scored a fifty in the last five innings, which has put the team’s middle order under pressure. Former England fast bowler Stuart Broad feels India should have recalled Cheteshwar Pujara. The right-handed has scored a couple of hundreds in the ongoing season of the Ranji Trophy 2024.

Despite Pujara’s impressive form, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee preferred new names over the tried and tested batter.

“With the experience & world class talent of Kohli missing, would there have been temptation to bring back Pujara into this India batting line up? Or is his international career over? Feels like he could have brought some consistency and an anchor,” Stuart Broad wrote on X.

India were 213/7 on Day 2 of the Ranchi Test. Earlier, England were bowled out for 353 runs in their first innings.

While Ravindra Jadeja took 4 wickets for India, England’s Shoaib Bashir has accounted for same number of as scalps.
