Ajinkya Rahane reacts to Shreyas Iyer’s return to Mumbai team ahead of Ranji Trophy semi-final

Shreyas Iyer is all set to play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy semi-final against Tamil Nadu. After getting dropped from the central contract, the batter will play for his team.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed the development.

“Please note that Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan were not considered for the annual contracts in this round of recommendations,” the BCCI stated in a media release.

“The BCCI has recommended that all athletes give precedence to participating in domestic cricket during periods when they are not representing the national team,” the release added.

Mumbai captain Ajinkya Rahane reacted to Iyer’s return to the side, saying that his experience will be crucial. The semi-final will start on March 2. Speaking to the media, Rahane welcomed his star batter.

“He has experience, and his contribution has been amazing for the side over the years. We are excited to have him back for the semi-final,” Rahane said.

“He doesn’t need any encouragement and suggestion from anyone. He has always contributed with the bat and that his presence will also help other players,” he added.

The batter was dropped from the Indian team after the first two Tests against England.
