  • Underpinning the new car will be the VW Group’s Premium Platform Electric architecture.
  • The new EV is expected to feature a 100 kWh battery pack.
  • The RS6 e-tron is expected to be offered in both Sportback and Avant body styles.

Audi’s next high-performance electric sedan – the RS6 e-tron – continues to be tested and evaluated, and our spy photographers recently spotted Audi engineers testing its towing abilities in some fridged European conditions. Some camouflage has also been stripped away, giving us a better look at the car’s styling.

Few Audi models are as well regarded as the RS6, and while the next-generation ICE model will switch to the RS7 name, the electric version is expected to keep the iconic name intact. The upcoming EV is underpinned by the VW Group’s Premium Platform Electric (PPE), just like the Porsche Macan EV, and will feature an 800-volt electrical architecture, paired with a 100 kWh battery pack.

It remains unclear how far Audi will push the performance envelope with the RS6 e-tron. However, it’s possible a pair of electric motors could allow it to pump out upwards of 800 hp. In June, the e-tron GT range was updated, and the flagship RS e-tron GT and RS e-tron GT Performance models now offer 845 hp and 912 hp. It’s possible the RS6 e-tron could come close to these figures.

Visually, the car will look very similar to the A6 e-tron Concept from a couple of years ago. The front end will include a small lower grille area and side intakes, as well as a pair of split LED headlights. Audi has also equipped this prototype with a set of cameras in place of the door mirrors, although we suspect they will only be available in specific markets.

The RS6 e-tron has a sexy fastback shape and the taillights of this prototype are fully exposed for the first time. They are slim and edgy and, like so many other cars released in recent years, are joined by a light bar. The prototype also has a small lip spoiler on the trunk lid and a subtle rear diffuser.
