Looking for a staycation destination for 2024? A pretty city in North Yorkshire has been named as one of the UK’s most walkable destinations.

York was crowned the UK’s third most walkable city in a study by the team at Preply, coming just behind Oxford.

York’s main attractions were all within an hour’s walk of each other in a radius of under three miles.

Even better, the city is also home to England’s most beautiful building. York Minster was named the UK’s most attractive building in a study by angi.

The 7th-century church’s stunning stained glass windows and intricate architecture make it a top tourist destination.

‘Joanp232’ said on Tripadvisor: “Completely awe inspiring. It exceeded my expectations both in size and beauty. The stone carving alone was incredible.”

‘Wayne M’ wrote: “An amazing and incredible cathedral in the beautiful city of York. A must if you visit this wonderful city. And the Chapterhouse is incredible.”

But York has so many attractions to explore. Tourists who love to walk will want to head up onto the city’s walls which run alongside the River Ouse.

History fans will love the Jorvik Viking Centre, an immersive experience which takes tourists inside Viking life in York.

From its life-size dioramas and mannequins to its state-of-the-art gallery, visitors won’t leave disappointed.

York is also known as the chocolate capital of the UK and tourists might scent cocoa in the air as they wander the Old Town streets.
