World Cancer Day is celebrated every year on February 4 to create awareness about cancer and clarify the numerous doubts of the people regarding this deadly disease. One question that most people have about cancer prevention is how do cancer cells grow in the body?
Dr Siddharth Kumar, Cancer Specialist at Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences (UPUMS) in Saifai, Etawah, shared some information with News18.
How Does Cancer Originate In A Body?
The abnormal growth of cells in the body is called cancer. According to the expert, cancer cells enlist the help of proteins present in the body to proliferate. The human body needs cells to function properly. Also, our cells need a certain amount of copper. Notably, tumour cells contain a high amount of copper. Apart from this, cancer cells present in the blood serum of cancer patients need more copper than healthy cells. When the level of copper is high, proteins are more active.
Which Stage Of Cancer Is Considered Fatal?
According to experts, most deaths due to cancer are caused by secondary tumours, which form in many parts of the body, such as the liver and lungs. By the fourth stage of the tumour, this disease becomes fatal. A protein called Memo1, which is a part of the signal-sending system of cancer cells, grows very fast and spreads to other parts of the body. Earlier research revealed that when the gene for Memo1 is inactive in breast cancer cells, it reduces the risk of tumour formation.
Treatment To Kill Cancer
According to Dr Kumar, chemotherapy and radiotherapy are done to kill cancer cells. After this, if needed, the tumour is removed by surgery. However, treatment is often determined based on the specific case.
