“70 percent of the current players will not play for Chennai Super Kings next year”: Suresh Raina predicts mass exodus

Chennai Super Kings haven’t been able to win a lot of matches in the Indian Premier League 2025. With two wins from eight games, they are likely to finish the 18th season among the bottom three teams.

The franchise didn’t invest in KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, Mohammed Siraj, Krunal Pandya, and several other big names in the mega auction. They bought R Ashwin, Rachin Ravindra, Devon Conway, and Rahul Tripathi for hefty amounts, but the outcomes have been ordinary. All of these players have been dropped from the Playing XI because of their failures.

On the other hand, retained players Ruturaj Gaikwad (injured), Shivam Dube, MS Dhoni, Ravindra Jadeja, and Matheesha Pathirana didn’t set the stage on fire. Gaikwad, who is the captain of the franchise, fractured his elbow and was ruled out after five matches, with Dhoni returning as the skipper. Suresh Raina, who won four IPL titles with the Men in Yellow, is miffed by the team’s results, accusing the owners and management of not buying match-winners in the mega auction.

He mentioned that the franchise will release 70 percent of the current players before the next season in 2026. “70 percent players of the current players will not play for CSK next year. The batters and bowlers haven’t done anything this season. I haven’t seen Chennai performing like this before,” Suresh Raina.

Raina highlighted CSK’s performance in the auction. “They had a bad auction as right players were not bought. Players, who are part of the team in the ongoing season, haven’t done anything. A lot of answers are needed,” he added.

Ashwin will definitely not play for the Men in Yellow after his below-par performances, while Dhoni is expected to announce retirement.
