After cursing Kapil Dev and MS Dhoni, Yograj Singh wants to coach Pakistan after their exit from Champions Trophy

Yograj Singh criticized Wasim Akram and Shoaib Akhtar for constant criticism of Pakistan’s team, accusing them of prioritizing commentary over mentoring young talent. Yograj claimed that he could improve Pakistan cricket in a year, following their poor 2025 Champions Trophy campaign. Pakistan’s title defense ended with defeat to New Zealand and India.

“Is it really appropriate for legendary players like Wasim Akram to make such disgraceful comments? And the fact that others around him are laughing at this is shameful. Shoaib Akhtar, you’re comparing Pakistan’s players to the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli? Wasim, you’re sitting there earning money. Why don’t you go back to your country and run a coaching camp? I’d like to see which of you greats can actually help Pakistan win a World Cup. If not, perhaps it’s time for you to step aside,” Yograj Singh told Sports Next.

“If I start coaching Pakistan, I will make sure they improve as a team in one year. You will remember me. It’s all about passion. I dedicate 12 hours a day to training. You have to give everything ,your blood, your sweat, and your energy to help your country and your players,” he added.

“Talking big from the comfort of the commentary box doesn’t make a difference,”

Yograj said, “Many former Pakistani players criticize the team, but it doesn’t help. Do Indian ex-players do the same? When players struggle with confidence, harsh comments add pressure. They see you as legends, they will listen to you.”

He questioned, “All these players got opportunities because of Imran Khan. Is there anyone like him today to guide the next generation? Tell Wasim, Waqar, and Shoaib to stop preaching about talent alone Pakistan has plenty. Someone once helped them become great cricketers.”

Yograj concluded, “I don’t support anyone, from any country, using such harsh words for their own players.”

Pakistan became the first host in 16 years to exit the Champions Trophy before the knockouts. Their ICC struggles began with the 2023 World Cup and continued in the 2024 T20 World Cup, where they crashed out after a shock loss to the USA.
