BCCI sanctions Rishabh Pant with a fine of INR 12 lakh

Delhi Capitals skipper Rishabh Pant has been fined by the Board of Control for Cricket in India after he was found guilty of breaching the Code of Conduct during his team’s IPL 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, in Visakhapatnam.

DC defeated the defending champions by 20 runs to register their first win of the 17th season. For CSK, it was their first defeat after two back-to-back wins.

Pant was fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their match against the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led team. It was the Delhi Capitals’ first offense of the 17th season. Pant was fined INR 12 lakh.

Earlier, Gujarat Titans skipper Shubmanb Gill was also sanctioned for the slow over-rate offense against the Chennai Super Kings at the Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai last Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Pant made his mark with the bat, scoring a fifty after missing the previous season due to injuries suffered in a car accident. After a 93-run stand between Prithvi Shaw and David Warner, Pant kept the scoreboard ticking with his 32-ball 51 as Delhi Capitals set a target of 192.

Ajinkya Rahane was the top performer for CSK scoring 45 runs off 30 balls before MS Dhoni smashed four boundaries and three sixes in his unbeaten knock of 37 runs off 16 balls.

However, the five-time champions were restricted to 171 for six as the host franchise won by 20 runs.
