Host and commentator Mark Howard, on Wednesday, was admitted to hospital after Brett Lee’s delivery injured him during a promo shoot ahead of the second Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Adelaide.
Speaking to News Corp, Lee said that he was bowling whole Howard was behind the stumps as a wicketkeeper. He delivered a perfect ball that hit the stumps, but the bail struck Howard’s head, leaving him in blood.
“We were shooting and I was involved in a bowling challenge. I bowled a ball that hit the stumps but I heard two noises,” he said.
“I didn’t realise what happened. After looking at him and the stumps, I came to know that he was hit by a bail in the middle of the head. He was bleeding badly,” he added.
“I haven’t seen a bail travelling that fast before. It was a once-in-a-million chance that bail would hit someone. I think the bail hit him first before he caught the ball.”
Howard went to the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and was stitched up. Lee said that Howard will continue his broadcasting duty in the second Test despite getting injured.
“He will be there in the second Test. He is still in the hospital but is carrying out his duties from that place.”.
Howard was pleased that he was not hit in his eyes, as that could have impacted his TV career.
“Lee was concerned and I am happy that I managed to avoid an eye injury.”
