South Africa’s T20I captain, Aiden Markram, has admitted that the defeat against India in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 was not easy to handle. However, spending time away from the game has helped him.
The Proteas were ahead of India while chasing 177, with 30 needed off 30 balls at one stage. They had six wickets in hand, but the players couldn’t handle the pressure and lost the game by seven runs.
“I should give it as much time as it needs. It was not easy to handle. However, I am feeling fine after speding time away from the game,” he was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.
“I didn’t had cricket conversations as it would have started the discussion once again. Each individaul takes time to be at peace. It helps you to move on and to move forward,” he added.
Markram managed just 4 runs in the mega match. Heinrich Klaasen accumulated 52 runs off 27 balls, but his dismissal started a shocking batting collapse as the Proteas were restricted to 169/8.
South Africa will take on the West Indies in the three-match T20I series, with the first contest on August 23. The remaining two contests will be played on August 25 and August 27.
