Ex-India player Aakash Chopra expressed his disappointment with the selectors for leaving out Sarfaraz Khan from the Indian squad for the upcoming Test series against England, highlighting that the middle-order batter has never been given an opportunity to showcase his skills in overseas Test matches. Sarfaraz, who has scored 371 runs at an average of 37.1 in six Tests, was overlooked, even though he didn’t feature in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra questioned why Sarfaraz was dropped without being tested in foreign conditions.
“Sarfaraz Khan is not in the team, and it’s hard not to feel for him. People may assume he won’t perform, but he hasn’t been given a chance to fail. He didn’t play in the BGT, nor is he part of the squad now. You’ve already written him off without letting him prove himself,” he said (5:15).
“That said, he is still part of the India A squad. Now, it’s up to him to score runs in the side games and show the selectors they were wrong. He needs to demonstrate that he can perform in England too. The ball is in his court now to prove his worth,” he added.
Sarfaraz Khan is part of the India A squad for their upcoming tour of England, which includes three matches. The India A team is set to play two first-class matches against the England Lions, with the opening game scheduled for May 30. Afterward, the squad will play an intra-squad match against the senior Indian team.
