Former England cricketer Sir Geoffrey Boycott has urged captain Ben Stokes to drop Zak Crawley from playing XI. Boycott expressed his concerns as Crawley continues to struggle in the Test series against India. Since making his debut in 2019, the right-handed batter has been a regular member of the national team. While his early career showed promise, his recent performances have been inconsistent, casting doubt over his selection.

Crawley made 65 in the first Test at Headingley, but his scores have since dropped to 19, 0, 18, and 22. His most recent dismissal at Lord’s where he played a weak front-foot drive to a wide delivery in the second innings highlighted his ongoing technical issues.

“How many more chances is Crawley going to get? After 57 Tests, he hasn’t shown any improvement. He was caught behind in the first innings, and then a front-foot drive in the second to a wide delivery resulted in his down. It is time to move on from him,” he said.

Boycott is not pleased with Crawley’s place in the England team. He believes England can’t afford to carry a player, who is not performing consistently, especially with the Ashes approaching. Boycott also warned that Australian fast bowlers Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, and Pat Cummins will be eager to target Crawley.

“Most rival bowlers are eager to face him. Just imagine what the Australian pacers are planning for this winter’s Ashes. If Starc doesn’t trouble you, Hazlewood and Cummins certainly will.”
