MS Dhoni is still active in the Indian Premier League despite battling fitness issues. His knee continues to trouble him, and despite surgery, the veteran was not perfectly fit in the previous season. At 43, Dhoni is training in Chennai for the new season, and his former Chennai Super Kings teammate Suresh Raina is backing him.
“He will play the finsiher’s role and he must be ready with his plans for the season. He is the oldest player in the IPL this year, but he has different things going on in his mind. His fitness is still supreme,” Raina said.
“He hit many sixes last year and is once again looking strong. He still has two or three years of cricket left in him. I think we will see Thala’s helicopters this year,” he added.
CSK retained Dhoni in the uncapped players’ category for INR 4 crore.
Raina also highlighted that CSK spinners R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, and Noor Ahmed will trouble rivals in Chennai.
“CSK will have 12 overs of quality spin. The batters of the visiting teams will have to bat really well against these three in Chennai. Ashwin, Jadeja, and Noor are quality bowlers. Ashwin and Jadeja will contain batters, and Noor will take wickets,” he added.
CSK will take on arch-rivals Mumbai Indians on March 23.
