“He is the unsung hero of KKR’s win over SRH”: Navjot Singh Sidhu expresses admiration for the 27-year-old batter

Kolkata Knight Riders defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 80 runs in their fourth match of the 18th season. The total of 200 runs proved enough as the bowlers restricted the visiting side to 120 runs in 16.4 overs at Eden Gardens. The hosts were in a spot of bother when openers Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock departed with just 16 runs on the board.

Ajinkya Rahane and Angkrish Raghuvanshi added 81 runs but the two were dismissed in a span of few overs. KKR were in danger of posting just 160-170, a total that could have proved insufficient to defend. However, the aggressive batting by Venkatesh Iyer (60 off 29) and Rinku Singh (32* off 17) took the total to 200/6 in 20 overs.

Former batter Navjot Singh Sidhu hailed Rinku for playing an active part in the success of the franchise. He called him an unsung hero of the Knight Riders.

“Rinku Singh deserves the credit along with Venkatesh Iyer. He was the unsung hero of KKR’s win over SRH. His innings was the difference between the total of 160 and 200,” Sidhu opined on Star Sports.

Piyush Chawla also heaped praise on the left-handed batter. “Rinku didn’t have time to settle down. He has to attack from ball one and play high-risk cricket. A batter, who scores runs by playing cricketing shots, is the most dangerous,” Chawla mentioned.
