Aakash Chopra has said that Axar Patel was being treated unfairly by the selections and the team management since India’s win in the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. However, he mentioned that the all-rounder’s appointment as the vice-captain for the five-match T20I series against England might force the decision-makers to use him effectively.
Tte first contest of the series will be played at the Eden Gardens on January 22. The BCCI announced the 15-member team, with Axar getting a chance to become captain Suryakumar Yadav’s deputy.
“Axar Patel is the new vice-captain. He is not getting opportunities and was being treated unfairly every time by the management. The selection committee has promoted hin and now he will be included in the playing XI, with skipper giving him his quota of four overs,” Aakash Chopra said.
Chopra added that Axar can urge SKY to give him more overs in the upcoming matches. *Axar Patel played a key role in India’s success in the T20 World Cup. However, he hasn’t been used properly. I don’t understand the reason behind this treatment. He can now discuss with Suryakumar and ask him to give him overs in every match,” he added.
Axar was given just eight overs in four T20Is in South Africa last year. He took three wickets at an average of 15.00 and an economy rate of 5.62.
