Team India have suffered a big setback ahead of the first Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024 Test against Australia in Perth. With Rohit Sharma unavailable for the series opener, the visitors have been impacted by Shubman Gill’s fractured finger. The right-handed person was injured while making a catch during an intra-squad match against India A.
Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, and Virat Kohli were also hit on their bodies during the practice match. Kohli went for scans, while KL Rahul left field after he took a blow to his elbow. The team management is thinking of adding a player from India A to the central team.
Devdutt Padikkal or Sai Sudharsan is likely to be included in the group. The left-handed batters batted well against Australia A.
“Team management will take a call but there is a possibility of Sai or Devdutt staying back. Despite the presence of Abhimanyu Easwaran, the decision-makers don’t want to take a risk,” a source told the Times of India.
Padikkal made his Test debut during the fifth and final Test against England in Dharamsala. On the other hand, Sudharsan amassed a double hundred against Delhi and a half-century against Saurashtra. He has represented India in white-ball formats.
The first Test between India and Australia will be played on November 22 at the Optus Stadium in Perth.
