“India is doctoring pitches and killing Test cricket”: Aakash Chopra exposes double standards of Western media on Lord’s track

Former India player Aakash Chopra was surprised that no one has spoken against the Lord’s pitch used in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) final between South Africa and Australia. A total of 28 wickets fell on two days of the summit clash.

Aakash exposed double standards of the Western Media. He added that India would have been accused of doctoring pitches and killing Test cricket.

“If these 28 wickets had fallen in India and not Lord’s in two days, the Western media would have created an uproar. They would have accused India of doctoring pitches and killing Test cricket by preparing tracks helpful for the spinners. The question would have revolved around bounce and how such pitches can be allowed,” Chopra said.

Australia were bowled out for 212 in their first innings while South Africa managed 138 runs. The defending champions posted 207 in their second essay.

The former cricketer also highlighted how the Western media was sympathetic to their batters and their technique in English conditions. He slammed the same parties for not showing similar sentiments when their teams play in India.

“You would have seen headlines questioning the pitches in India. When it happens in England, the tracks are called sporting. They apply different yardsticks to pitches in their own countries and India,” he added.

Pitches in India have been criticised for giving an advantage to the host team.
