Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was miffed with the fielding of Team India.
Yashasvi Jaiswal scored a century in the first Test against England but he is facing flak for dropping catches. India dropped eight catches, which allowed the hosts to secure a five-wicket win. The dropped chances cosh the visitors 250 runs in Leeds. Yashasvi Jaiswal couldn’t grab four catches in the contest.
Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar was miffed with the fielding of Team India. “I don’t think fielding coach T Dilip will give any medal. Yashasvi Jaiswal, who is a good fielder, couldn’t hold on to any catch,” Sunil Gavaskar said.
Stuart Broad also lambasted India. “You need to take catches if you are trying to take 10 wickets. You can’t drop three or four catches,” he said.
However, former India fielding coach R Sridhar has defended Yashasvi Jaiswal. “He has been exceptional as a fielder if we leave out Melbourne and Leeds. He took an outstanding catch against Bangladesh in Kanpur. It’s easy to criticise from the commentary box but conditions are challenging, and for many players, it’s their first England tour,” he told Sportstar.
Sridhar, however, questioned the ground fielding of India.
“The poor ground fielding is not acceptable. It is in your control. You should know which ball to attack and which ball to put your body behind,” he added.
He urged everyone to show patience with the young team.
“It is not easy to be a slip fielder in cold conditions. The fingers are number and Duke’s ball wobbles a lot as comes towards the fielders,” he concluded.
