Mohammed Shami was the best bowler in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, with India making it to the final after 12 years. Shami finished as the highest wicket-taker in the tournament despite carrying an ankle injury. He has been out of cricket since then and recently underwent surgery to fix the issue.
He will miss the IPL 2024 for Gujarat Titans and the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 for India. Jay Shah has provided a significant update on the return of the veteran pacer.
Shah said that Shami’s surgery was successful, and he is back in India. He revealed that Shami will play cricket in the Test series against Bangladesh in September. India is scheduled to play two Tests and three T20Is against the neighboring country. Shami will also be available for the crucial tour of Australia in December.
Jay Shah also spoke about KL Rahul, who went to London to take an injection and is currently at the NCA for rehabilitation.
Jay Shah said that Rishabh Pant is doing well ahead of his return to Delhi Capitals for IPL 2024. Shah also noted that Pant could be India’s main wicket-keeper at the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.
“He is batting and keeping well. We will declare him fit soon. If he can keep well, he will be our wicket-keeper in the T20 World Cup 2024. He is an asset for the team.”
