Former India player and the captain of the 1983 World Cup winning team, Kapil Dev, is happy that BCCI has taken a hard stance against the players for their refusal to play the Ranni Trophy.
He didn’t take anyone’s name but talked about Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan, who were recently removed from the central contracts.
The two defied BCCI’s instructions to play red-ball matches, and instead, the du0 decided to train individually.
“I was checking the news on Indian cricket and I am happy with bat BCCI did. Players should play domestic cricket. I know some players will suffer but let them suffer. There is noithing bigger than the country,” he said.
Ishan and Iyer didn’t turn up for Jharkhand and Mumbai, which didn’t go down with the top brass of the Indian cricket board, and they approved the selector’s recommendations of not offering new contracts to the players.
Iyer has fallen in line and will play for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy semi-final. On the other hand, Ishan is competing in the DY Patil T20 tournament.
They will soon head to the pre-season camps of their respective franchise. Ishan is an important player of the Mumbai Indians, while Sheryas will lead the Kolkata Knight Riders.
