Despite playing just two games, MS Dhoni has yet to bat for CSK in IPL 17. While this shows the strength of CSK’s batting lineup, it has kept fans eagerly awaiting the chance to see the iconic player with his new long locks club trademark sixes.
Even without batting, the 42-year-old wicketkeeper has impressed with his agility, including a stunning diving catch. Dhoni’s continued prowess behind the stumps bodes well for CSK, but spectators are yearning to watch the legend wield his famous bat once again.
Imagine the level of noise when Dhoni comes out to bat and starts towering sixes. This exemplifies the legend of Dhoni, which transcends boundaries and sports. There are cricketers, like England’s bowling great Stuart Broad, who debuted after Dhoni yet retired before him. Broad remains stunned by how effortlessly Dhoni accomplishes feats that cricketers half his age struggle with.
“I don’t think he needs to bat in games, MS Dhoni showcased his legendary status with a split-second moment that altered the match. His lightning-fast stumping electrified teammates and fans alike, who swarmed the field and roared their appreciation for Chennai’s captain.” stated Broad on Star Sports.
Aussie batter Steve Smith also backed Broad and praised Dhoni for his athletic catch to dismiss GT batter Vijay Shankar.
“Dhoni took an impressive diving catch, covering 2.27 meters to grab the ball. Since Darryl Mitchell, bowls a little slower, MS stood in close. With little time to react, he nevertheless displayed sharp reflexes, diving and sticking out his right hand for a great grab.” said Smith.
IPL 2024 will likely be Dhoni’s farewell season. He has already passed the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad, and under his leadership, CSK have won both their games so far. Dhoni’s absence from the mic has disappointed fans, but his mere presence still draws crowds. He will inevitably bat at some point this season, so watch for fireworks that will ring reminders of Dhoni’s glory days.
