Former Indian pacer and MS Dhoni’s teammate, Varun Aaron, has announced his retirement from red-ball cricket following the conclusion of the Ranji Trophy season. He wants to concentrate on white-ball cricket. Aaron, who became famous for his pace, has stated that the ongoing game between Jharkhand and Rajasthan at the Keenan Stadium in Jamshedpur will be his last in the four-day format.
“I started playing red-ball cricket in 2008. I was injured because of bowling fast. My body will not allow me to play red-ball cricket beyond the current season, so I have decided to bid adieu,” Aaron told ESPN Cricinfo.
“This might be my last game in from of the family members and the home fans because Jharkhand doesn’t play white-ball games over here. I started my career from here, so this is emotional for me.”
His first-class debut came against Jammu and Kashmir in Ranchi in 2008, and Aaron played his first Test against West Indies in 2011. His last series was against South Africa in 2015. He was often out of action due to career-threatening injuries.
Varun kept coming back after recovering from injuries and continued to represent his state in domestic cricket. He bowled some lethal spells in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Aaron joined Leicester in 2018 and went on to pick six wickets against Glamorgan. He took 168 wickets at an average of 33.74 in first-class cricket, including six 5-wicket hauls.
“I always wanted to bowl fast, but you need to take off your body as well. I am a part of the Pace Bowler Talent Hunt’ at MRF. We will be working with young fast bowlers from across India,” Aaron said.
“1500 bowlers have been a part of this talent hunt. We are travelling to almost all parts of India and will finalize 20 boys for more training. I hope to give more fast bowlers to India from these talent hunts.”
