“No Test win at home for more than 1000 days”: Ashwin feels sorry for Pakistan greats after debacle against Bangladesh

Ravichandran Ashwin felt sorry for the greats of Pakistan after the team’s whitewash against Bangladesh at home. Bangladesh won the first Test by 10 wickets to register their first win against them in red-ball cricket. In the second game, the victory margin was 6 wickets. The visitors were 26/6 in their first innings at one stage.  Pakistan was ahead in both games but failed to win.

This was the 10th successive winless five-day contest at home for Pakistan. They have been beaten in six, while four ended in a draw. Their last win at home was against South Africa in February 2021.

Pakistan are now 8th in the WTC rankings. Ashwin said that it was disappointing to see the downfall of cricket in Pakistan.a

“What a win for Bangladesh, but it was disappointing for Pakistan.  Pakistan were never an easy team to beat, but now their dominance is over. No win for more than 1000 days at home,” he said.

“I feel for the legends of Pakistan.  Imran Khan, Waqar Younis, Shoaib Akhtar, Wasim Akram, Saeed Anwar, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Salim Malik, and the names go on. They were match-winners.”

Ashwin hailed Bangladesh for their performance against Pakistan. “Bangladesh have come a long way and they are quality Test side. We played against them last year, and they were phenomenal. Shakib Al Hasan, Mushfiqur Rahim, and Mehidy Hasan are always making contributions, and the youngsters are also chipping in.”

Ashwin was surprised to see the level of cricket in Pakistan.

“Misbah and Younis Khan were there, and the likes of Yasir Shah, Abdur Rehman, and Zulfiqar Babar contributed.  Where Pakistan cricket is right now, I can’t believe it.”
