Not Faf du Plessis! Former India player suggests a new opening partner for Virat Kohli in IPL 2024

Royal Challengers Bengaluru became the first team to lose a home game in the Indian Premier League 2024. Kolkata Knight Riders defeated them by 7 wickets, with 19 deliveries left. Bengaluru put up 182 runs on the board, and it never challenged the Shreyas-led team. Former India cricketer Krishnamachari Srikkanth slammed RCB for losing two games in the 17th season.

Speaking on Star Sports, he said that the Faf du Plessis-led team should get their combinations right to leave any impact. Srikkanth said that Bengaluru need to drop Rajat Patidar and Alzarri Joseph from the playing XI as they haven’t performed so far.

Patidar has scored 21 runs in three innings, while Joseph has taken 1 wicket at an economy of 11.90.

“Will Jacks should open with Virat Kohli in the remaining matches.. Captain Faf du Plessis hasn’t scored runs as an opener and he should bat at the No.3 slot. Cameron green and Glenn Maxwell should come at the No.4 and No.5 spots. Drop Patidar and Joseph from Playing XI. Akash Deep deserves to play,” Srikkanth said on Star Sports.

Srikkanth was miffed with the RCB bowling for allowing Sunil Narine to score runs from the first over of the innings. He scored a quickfire 47 runs in the powerplay overs.

‘A team needs a good balance with the bat and ball. I was surprised that RCB bowlers didn’t bowl a single bouncer to the throat. You let Sunil Narine play attacking innings,” Srikkanth added. RCB will play LSG on April 2 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
