Former Australia spin legend Brad Hogg has predicted a bright future for younig India wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel. Hogg’s predictions come after Jurel’s impressive debut performance in the ongoing Test series against England.
Jurel received his cap from fellow-wicket keeper Dinesh Karthik at the Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot ahead of the third Test. Despite missing out on a half-century, Jurel managed to score 46 runs and contributed significantly behind the stumps including an exceptional run-out of Ben Duckett to turn the tide in the favour of Team India early in the second innings.
Hogg, who closely observed Jurel’s performance praised the youngster and stated that he is very impressed with him. In a video on his YouTube channel, Hogg stated his thoughts.
“I find Jurel highly impressive. While I sympathize with Bharat, Jurel brings more to the table both as a batsman and behind the stumps. His future looks promising, contingent on Pant’s complete recovery and participation in all three formats,” he said.
The impact of Jurel’s debut extended beyond his contributions, England found themselves struggling due to the brilliance displayed by another young Indian star, Yashasvi Jaiswal, who smashed his second consecutive double century in this series. As a result, England’s strategy of quick scoring to provide sufficient time for their bowling attack backfired, leaving them unable to cope with the immense batting prowess demonstrated by India’s youthful talents like Jaiswal and Jurel.
“England is playing their style of cricket, aware of India’s talented young players. They aimed to score quickly to allow their bowlers time to take 20 wickets. However, young Jaiswal became a hurdle, and along with Sarfaraz, they put pressure on England with their aggressive play,” Hogg added.
As India prepares to take on England once again in the fourth Test starting on February 23rd at the JSCA International Stadium in Ranchi, they look to seal the series with victory.
