“Only option for captaincy”: AB de Villiers rules out the possibility of Virat Kohli not leading RCB in IPL 2025

Former South Africa and Royal Challengers Bengaluru player AB de Villiers said that Virat Kohli is the only option to lead RCB in IPL 2025. De Villiers, who was associated with the team, highlighted Kohli’s leadership skills. Faf du Plessis, the previous skipper, was not retained, and he joined Delhi Capitals for the 18th season.

“Virat Kohli is the only option for RCB’s captaincy. He is nearing the end of his career and is looking inspirational. We have seen him playing match-winning innings in the past,” he said.

Virat was the skipper of the Bengaluru-based franchise from 2013 to 2021, and the team played a final in 2016 as well. When he left the role in 2021, the management bought Faf du Plessis, who led the franchise in three seasons.

Kohli is struggling in Test cricket but he is a different player in white-ball cricket, especially IPL. If he agrees to lead the team, it could hold RCB in winning the title. The 36-year-old is the leading run-scorer in the league, with 8004 runs at an average of 38.66 and a strike rate of 131.97 in 252 matches. He has hit 8 hundreds and 55 fifties so far.
