“Pakistan reached the No.1 spot in ICC ODI Rankings by playing against weak teams”: Junaid Khan

Pakistan fast bowler Junaid Khan said that Babar Azam didn’t improve as a captain like Sarfaraz Ahmed did during his term.

Junaid labelled Babar as one of the best batters in the world but mentioned that Azam didn’t lead the team properly. Babar resigned from captaincy across formats after Pakistan’s failure in the ICC World Cup 2023.

“Babar showed no improvement in his captaincy. If you look at Sarfaraz Ahmed, he kept learning day by day. We won the Champions Trophy by beating India in the final and also became the No.1 side in the ICC T20I Rankings,” Junaid was quoted as saying on the Nadir Ali podcast.

Pakistan became the No.1 team in ODIs during the home series against New Zealand. Junaid said that Pakistan achieved the top billing by defeating weak teams.

“We became the No.1 team by playing against weak rivals. Babar never learned anything while leading Pakistan. He is a world class batter but failed as a captain,” he added.

Junaid was pleased with Pat Cummins’ captaincy during the ICC World Cup.

“Pat Cummins was aggressive and led Australia to their sixth World Cup title.”
