He took his time and added 99 runs with captain Shubman Gill to take the team’s total to 310/5 at stumps.
He was unbeaten on 41 runs while skipper Gill accumulated 114 not out. Jadeja was under pressure after his flop show in the opening Test in Leeds. The veteran had failed to stitch important partnerships with the lower-order batters and managed to take just 1 wicket. However, the team management kept faith in him and retained the all-rounder for the ongoing game.
“Perfect innings,” Cheteshwar Pujara said. “He is a good player of spin bowling and the way he took on Shoaib Bashir was pleasing to watch. I hope he carries on and add more runs on Day 2 of the match,” he added.
Meanwhile, Gill had accumulated a century in the first red-ball game as well. However, the visitors lost the contest by 5 wickets. Yashasvi Jaiswal was the other batter, who was close to completing a second ton in the ongoing five-Test series. But he was dismissed after posting 87 runs, with the help of 13 boundaries.
Karun Nair (31) and Rishabh Pant (31) also got starts but couldn’t convert them into big scores.
