Gautam Gambhir is the new head coach of the Indian team, and he started his stint with a white ball tour of Sri Lanka. The Men in Blue won the T20I series 3-0 but lost the ODI series 0-2. Gambhir replaced Rahul Dravid, and the southpaw is renowned for his strong opinion.
He will be closely working with Rohit Sharma, who is the captain in 50-over format and red-ball cricket.
The real test of the Rohit-Gambhir partnership will start from the home Test series against Bangladesh and New Zealand.
Ahead of the upcoming international games, Ravichandran Ashwin spoke about the styles of Rohit and Gambhir in his conversation with journalist Vimal Kumar.
“Gauti bhai is intense. There are similarities between Rohit and Gautam, but Rohit keeps it light. Gauti has an intense personality,” Ashwin said.
The off-spinner further said that the differences should be accepted.
“Gambhir is passionate about Indian cricket like Rahul Dravid. But both are different. Yes, they have different personalities. MS Dhoni was cool, so everyone wanted the others to be like him, but it didn’t work that way. Everyone has their style, and we should accept it,” he added.
Ashwin was seen in action during the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2024 and will return for India in the upcoming two-Test series against Bangladesh.
