Rinku Singh crowned ‘best fielder’ of series, Indian team shines in fielding

Dynamic batter Rinku Singh was presented with the ‘Best Fielder’ medal for his fielding display during India‘s 4-1 T20I series victory over Zimbabwe. The Shubman Gill-captained squad capped off the series in style, clinching a convincing 42-run win in the final match at Harare Sports Club on Sunday, July 14.

The Men in Blue, posted a strong total of 167-6 after being put in to bat first. This included an impressive 11-run cameo by Rinku. The Indian bowlers then delivered a commanding performance, dismantling the Zimbabwe batting lineup. The sharp fielding from the Indian team also kept Zimbabwe under tight control throughout the contest.

The display in fielding abilities between Zimbabwe and the touring Indian second-string squad was glaringly apparent throughout the series. The Indian team has been exceptional in all aspects of their fielding, excelling at run-outs, catching, and ground fielding. In stark contrast, Zimbabwe’s fielding has been nothing short of dismal.

Unlike the World Cups, the series did not have a medal ceremony after each match. Instead, stand-in fielding coach Subhadeep Ghosh announced Rinku Singh as the overall winner based on performance in the series. The ceremony began with a recorded message from T Dilip, the fielding coach who had introduced the tradition. The BCCI’s social media handle posted a video of the ceremony

The dressing room was filled with cheers and applause when Rinku was declared. Although known for his explosive fielding, Rinku did not get many opportunities to bat, as the top order dominated the innings.

Reluctant to speak, Rinku was compelled by his teammates to address a speech. Ravi Bishnoi had thoughtfully set up a stool for the winner to use, and Rinku stepped up to the makeshift podium, spoke for a moment, then quickly stepped down.

“It was a pleasure to play alongside the team in what I believe was my fourth or fifth series. I honestly enjoy fielding rather than batting. I enjoy it, I like to run. If I don’t sprint, my body doesn’t feel right. And lastly God’s plan,” noted Rinku.

Team India will travel to Sri Lanka for an upcoming series, featuring three ODIs and three T20Is.
