Lucknow Super Giants skipper Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 lakh after his side maintained a slow over rate for the third occasion in the Indian Premier League 2025. The latest instance happened against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on May 27. The rest of the players were each fined INR 12 lakh or 50 percent of their match fee, whichever was lower.
Pant returned to form in Tuesday’s match against RCB with an unbeaten 118 off 61 balls. However, his effort went in vain as the visiting franchise won the contest by six wickets to secure a second-place finish in the standings. Lucknow had already been found guilty of over-rate offence in the previous games on April 27 and another on April 4, both against the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians.
“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain Rishabh Pant was sanctioned for a slow over-rate offence during Match 70 of the IPL 2025 against RCB at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow,” IPL said in a statement.
“As it was the third offence of this season, Rishabh Pant was fined INR 30 lakh. The rest of the players including the impact sub, were each fined INR 12 lakh or 50 percent of their match fees, which ever his lesser,” the statement further mentioned.
The host franchise posted 227/3 in the allotted 20 overs. Bengaluru started their chase brilliantly, with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli adding 61 runs in the powerplay. The main contribution came from Jitesh Sharma, who scored 85 off just 35 balls. His knock secured RCB’s highest successful run chase in IPL history. With the win, RCB confirmed their Qualifier 1 match against Punjab Kings on May 29. LSG finished seventh in the points table.
