“Rishabh Pant is not the future Indian captain”: Michael Vaughan rejects southpaw’s chances

Rishabh Pant has come back from serious injuries. He was out of cricket for 15 months after injuring himself in a fatal car accident. Pant underwent surgeries to fix his ligament tears and then had a long rehabilitation process. The left-handed batter is currently leading Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League 2024.

Pant has hit two fifties in the 17th season but he has failed as a captain. Delhi have lost four matches while winning just one against Chennai Super Kings.

He has been ordinary as a captain and his bowling changes have been questioned by former players. Michael Vaughan rejected the possibility of Rishabh leading India in the future.

“I admire Rishabh Pant a lot. He is one of the best batters and can dominate cricket for a long time. Pant has got in him to win matches for the Indian team.

“However, he is not a captaincy material. I don’t see him leading India in the future. He is coming back from a serious inury and is trying to get settled into the system.

“He has a lot of work to do as a batter and then asking him to captain is too much for him. Pant is not the future India captain. I feel Shubman Gill will lead India. He can be a good captain. I hope Pant proves me wrong but I don’t see him getting captain’s armband,” Michael Vaughan said on Cricbuzz.

Meanwhile, Shubman is leading Gujarat Titans in the 17th season of the tournament. GT have won two and lost as many so far.
