Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) leg-spinner Digvesh Rathi has been fined twice, and demerit points were added to his record for the notebook celebration in the Indian Premier League 2025. In the contest against Kolkata Knight Riders, Rathi came up with a new celebration after dismissing his idol, Sunil Narine. He wrote something on the ground instead of his palm.
In the match against Punjab Kings, he dismissed Priyansh Arya and gave him a send-off. The young spinner was fined 25 percent of his match fees along with one demerit point. He repeated the act against Mumbai Indians batter Naman Dhir, which led to a fine of 50 percent of his match fees, and two more demerit points were added.
The Delhi-born bowler has taken 7 wickets in five matches for LSG in the 18th season. Rathi has the backing of his teammates, as they think that his intentions are harmless.
New Zealand commentator Simon Doull has slammed the BCCI for taking action against Digvesh.
“His franchise should pay the fines. I don’t like the way he has been punished. I love his celebration style, and there is nothing wrong. Some of the Indian players have done the worst stuff by being in the face of the opponents but were not fined. They are trying to make an example out of a young you, who is making notes in his notebook,” Doull said on Cricbuzz.
