Former India player Sanjay Bangar lauded Shafali Verma after her brilliant knock against Pakistan in the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. Bangar said that the opener bats like Virender Sehwag.
The Women in Blue dismissed Pakistan for 108 runs in a Group A match on Friday, July 19. Shafali smashed 40 runs off 29 balls, helping the team win the contest by seven wickets and 35 deliveries to spare.
Bangar said that the batter destroyed the rivals just like Sehwag did in his playing days.
“Whenever I see her bat, I am reminded of Virender Sehwag because she plays like the former India batter. She played good strokes against Pakistan. The off-drive was her best shot. It shows that apart from playing an aggressive brand of cricket, she can also strike balls into good areas with proper technique,” Bangar said.
Shafali amassed six fours and a six during her knock. She added 85 runs for the opening wicket with Smriti Mandhana in just 9.3 overs.
