Lara, who holds the record for the highest Test individual score of 400* against England in 2004, touted Gill to break his record.

“Shubman Gill has the potential to surpass both my records. He is the most gifted batter of this new generation and is poised to dominate cricket in the upcoming years. I have confidence that he will set and break numerous significant records in his career.”

Lara also holds the record for an unbeaten 501 in a County Championship match for Warwickshire against Durham in 1994. Meanwhile, Gill became the youngest Indian to score a century in all formats. He also is the youngest player to score a double hundred in ODIs.
