Australia batter Steve Smith is not sure about his future in T20Is but has vowed to keep working hard to return to the team after failing to make it to the unit for the series against England and Scotland. His last T20I was in February, and the veteran was ignored at the ICC T20 World Cup in 2024.
“I don’t know what’s going on. They want to bring in some players, and that’s fine with me,” he said.
“I understood their requirements for the T20 World Cup, with all the strong guys making it to the team. I don’t want to think about it as my job is to work hard,” he added.
In July, Smith captained Washington Freedom to the Major League Cricket (MLC) title. He scored 336 runs at a strike rate of 148.67 and was named the Player of the Match for amassing 52-ball 88 in the final against the San Francisco Unicorns.
The right-handed batter has not played in IPL since 2021. “I would love to have one more opportunity in the Indian Premier League. I will give my name for the mega auction and see how things turn out. I have been playing well in the T20 leagues, and hopefully, I just keep putting my name.”
Smith is ready to play for the Sydney Sixers in the Big Bash League (BBL) in January 2025.
