Pakistan failed to win a game in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. They lost to New Zealand at home and were hammered by India in Dubai. The last contest against Bangladesh was called off due to rain. Despite being the host, Pakistan failed to impress.
Former player Mohammad Hafeez dragged the players of the 1990s and questioned their legacy while slamming the Mohammad Rizwan-led team. Meanwhile, Pakistan won the World Cup and was one of the best teams during the 1990s.
Hafeez, they didn’t win anything, and the future cricketers were not inspired to win trophies.
“They didn’t win an ICC event in 1996, 1999, and 2003. We reached the final once (1999 vs. Australia) but lost that badly. They were the mega superstars, but they couldn’t inspire by winning the ICC event,” Hafeez said.
‘I am a fan of the cricketers who played in the 1990s, but when it comes to legacy, they left nothing,” he added.
Legendary pacer Wasim Akram, who was a part of the team in the 90s, hit back at Hafeez. “I can say a lot of things but I don’t want to give them attention. These people are out of my life and I don’t want to take their names,” Wasim Akram said.
Earlier, Waqar Younis replied to Hafeez’s criticism by highlighting the wickets he and Wasim Akram took.
