Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep dismissed ten England batters in the first innings of the second Test. The hosts were bowled out for 407 in reply to India’s 587. The score was 84/5 at one stage, but sensational batting by Jamie Smith and Harry Brook stunned the visitors. The two added over 300 runs and saved their team from a follow-on. Smith remained unbeaten on 184 runs while Brook managed 158.
After Akash got rid of Brook, the remaining batters failed to stay in the middle, with Siraj accumulating six wickets. Akash added four scalps to his bowling figures.

Gavaskar was a happy man after seeing India’s dominance despite Brook and Smith’s onslaught.
“You don’t see Indian fast bowlers taking all the ten wickets to often. This is new India, This is aggressive India,” he said.
Siraj was under pressure after a below-par performance in the series opener in Leeds and needed a good spell to prove his worth.
“Mohammed Siraj is an inspiration”: Cheteshwar Pujara
Mohammed Siraj’s family was not financially sound, and he had to work really hard to reach the international stage. Cheteshwar Pujara, who has played a lot of cricket with the speedster, called him an inspiration after watching a story of his life and struggles.
“Siraj is an inspiration for young bowlers in the country. You can make it to the top level if you work hard,” he said.
